High-Level, Competitive Figure Skating Coach
Raleigh NC Area

Hello!
I want to thank you for your interest in competitive skating. High level, non-recreational skating is a long-term commitment. Your passion and desire for the sport is the most important quality a skater needs to have to achieve great success. To be successful one needs to be dedicated to training. This includes on ice training as well as off ice training which includes nutrition, exercise, and study as well as quality rest at the end of the day.

I think it is important for all of my students to understand that I am not asking you to do anything I have not already done. I grew up in an era and a country where laziness and disrespect were not tolerated.

So when a student and their parents ask for my help and professionalism to grow in skating, they should understand that my training and life experience helped me to build self-confidence, character and achieve the success that brought me to America. No matter the level of success my students achieve, they will always have the tools to be successful in all aspects of life.

I am committed to excellence and to my skater’s success in skating and their life choices.

My past accomplishments and history/resume as a skater and skate instructor has helped shape my coaching philosophy. In addition, I continue to study and grow as a coach through continued education and through the challenges that my current students face. In 1978 I started my skating career in Russia. I was coached and instructed by Tamara Moskvina who is a World Class Olympic pair’s Champion Coach. Her Russian skaters in pairs have won every Olympic pairs championship from 1964 through 2002. My other coach was Alexsei Mishin who coached the 2006 Olympic figure skating Champion “Evgeni Plushenko”. Alexsei Mishin is sometimes called “The Dean of figure skating coaches”.

  • In 1989 I was the World Bronze medalist in pair’s competition.
  • In 1990, 1991 and 1992 I was the European Silver medalist in pair’s competition.
  • In 1991 I was the Russian pair’s Champion.
  • In 1992 I was the pair’s Silver medalist at the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France.
  • I have finished second at the World Professional Championships five times and ultimately winning the World Professional Championships in 1996 in pair’s competition.
  • I toured with Stars on Ice for seven years from 1993 through 2000 throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia.
  • In addition, I have won the US Professional Championships, Canadian Professional Championships, the US Open Professional Championships, Challenge of Champions and ESPN Pro championships which later became Legends of Figure Skating Competition.

As my Russian coach Tamara Moskvina has explained, “We are so successful because we have developed traditions and because we work in the same manner as we have in the past”. My past experiences in skating and working with world class coaches has taught me, that dedication to practice and perseverance will help you achieve your goals. My past successes have built and developed my coaching philosophy and style. I began teaching and coaching students in 1995.

This is why my students come to me because I am dedicated to their personal success and personal growth in skating as well as in life.

In the past 20 plus years of my competitive skating career I have learned the following attributes to become successful:

  • Dedication
  • Desire
  • Passion
  • Commitment
  • Discipline

My current students, as well as my past graduates, have indicated to me that these attributes have carried them forward in life as well as in skating. This is a short overview of what I teach my students on a daily basis. I look forward to meeting with and having a more in depth discussion on competitive skating in the greater Raleigh, North Carolina area.

I will leave you with a quote from H. Jackson Brown, Jr. “Life’s Little Instruction Book”…
”The best preparation for tomorrow is to do your best today”.
